I know this is a bit late.... and you might never come back here.... but for anyone else who might google this page up inquiring after the same info. I shall submit what I know.
If you go over to www.konami.com you can find the "Konami Collector's Series Castlevania & Contra" collection. 5 classic NES games on one CD for the PC. Yes, it is control pad compatable and is in every way like the original. I just received my copy in the mail today having ordered it off of E-bay for $9 bucks...free shipping and handling. It is everything I had hoped for.
The cheat codes even work!.....For Super Contra: right, left, down, up, A, B, start or select start for two players. This gives you ten lives.
For Contra: UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A, B, A at the title screen. This gives you 30 lives.
Super Contra allows you to Quicksave at any point in the game to continue later. If only we had this feature back in the 80's!!
