How does Ruby cast her spell to the door with the ruby gem?

I am stuck in the eight level of Ship Wreck. I know I must use Ruby to open the door. I am prompted to press "R2" to change view and "O" to cast the spell. What spell?

Dude, you don't press the circle button. You press the X button, get it? The game isn't always right. So, lemme go step by step: First you press the R2 button to first person vew. Second you put the crystal thing in the middle of the screen. Third you press the x button. If that misses, ajust the screen so the attack can hit the crystal. X IS THE ATTACK BUTTON. NOT CIRCLE. Only one problem on the 12th floor, it's kinda hard to hit that one...
