being robbed is a random event but i have found that the more expensive stuff you have, the more likely you are to get robbed.

Go to build mode and remove some of the outside walls. Because the house is more exposed, this will generally attract the burglars and increase the chance of your house being broken into. If your house is fenced off, you may also have to remove some of the fences in order to allow the burglar access.
