Dungeon #2: Snake's Remains

The first order of business here is to turn the lights on. Equip your Satchel and chuck an Ember seed into each torch here. This will open the door to the north. Don't go through it yet. Instead, head through the door to the left. Quickly run to the left to avoid the pinching blades. Make your way to the far left side of the room, killing the Gels that attack and making sure you stay on the precarious path. In a chest here, you'll find 5 Rupees. Yay! Grab them and head through the north exit. In the next area, you'll find three rows of blocks and some Snakeropes. Kill the foul vermin and a Key will appear in the center of the room. Grab it and leave.

Return to the first room and head through the north door. Run through the next room and exit to the right. In the following room, kill the Snakeropes and push the middle block on the right row one space over. A chest will fall from the ceiling containing the dungeon Compass. Go to the previous room and this time head north. Here, you'll notice a large configuration of blocks in the shape of an arrow. Killing the Moblins and Snakeropes here will open doors to the east and south, but for now head up to the locked door. Use your Small Key on it.

In the following room, knock the Hardhat Beetles into the square pits and the door to the left will open. Scoot through. The next room is split in two parts. There are Moblins across the channel on the floor. Farm the plants in the corners of the room in order to get a bunch of Bombs. Chuck these across at the Moblins. When both are dead, a chest will come down from the heavens. Search it to find a Power Bracelet.

The Power Bracelet can be used to pick up heavy objects, like vases, rocks and such. Return to the previous room and move the vase below the chest, then look inside to find the Dungeon Map. Go back to the arrow room and move through the exit to the right. Kill the Snakeropes and Gels, then push the rightmost block one space to the right to open the door on the east wall. Scoot through, but hang at the doorway a moment, allowing the large blade to pass you by. Follow the path down to the Key, then run past another big blade on the east side of the room. Go through the southeastern exit here.

Equip your Power Bracelet and use it to move the large, long metal weights. Work your way down to the lower right corner. Climb the stair set here to pop above ground momentarily. You'll find yourself on the grassy platform near the stump. Search the chest here to find a Gasha Seed, then scoot left and go down into the cave opening in the ground. You're now on Level 2.

Kill the Snakeropes and Gels in this room, then search the left wall to find a Business Scrub. He'll sell you 10 Bombs for 30 Rupees. If you're out buy some, otherwise leave him alone and exit to the north. This is a puzzle you'll need to complete in 30 seconds or less, or the chest at the room's center will vanish. As soon as you get in the room, run diagonally up and place a Bomb. Once it breaks, run up to the next block and Bomb it. Place a Bomb on the north wall and explode it, then put a Bomb next to the top of three blocks here. This will explode two. Put one more near the last one, then go right and place the final bomb. Once it explodes, quickly go to the chest and grab the Small Key.

Return to the room with the large blades and exit to the east. Slay the Snakerope here, then drop a Bomb next to the row of cracked blocks. Step through and continue the Snakerope carnage, then go down the staircase in the floor. You'll find yourself in a side-scrolling cave. Near the spikes in the floor, tease the large, blue hanging block until it drops, then walk across it to get to the ladder. Continue to the left, avoiding the smaller Thwomp blocks as you run to the next ladder. Follow a series of ladders up to the exit.

When you surface, equip your Bracelet and use it to move the long weight to the right. Explore the chest at the bottom of the room to get 10 Rupees. Keep moving to the right. As you move the next series of weights, be sure not to linger on any of the cracked places in the floor, or you will fall to your doom. Make your way to the bottom right corner. Use your Small Key to open a passage into the mini-boss room.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mini-Boss: Facade

It's all a facade! This mini-boss is nothing more than a face, but he knows how to defend himself. He has three ways of doing so. Firstly, he will send out an army of spiders to nibble at you. Deal with them with your Sword. Secondly, he will send a stream of fireballs into the air. These are easy to dodge if you aren't up close. Just stay on the edge of the arena and watch the shadows. The third thing Facade will do is open the ground under your feet. When he starts making holes in the floor, run around like a crazy man until they go away.

To get back at the face, toss bombs at him when he appears. Make sure you aim at the center of his ugly mug, or you may miss the hit. You'll need five in order to drop him. When you do, be sure to grab the fairy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Go through the east door when the fight ends. Kill the Keese and Moblin in this room, then move to the bay to the south. Move the vases to expose a cracked section of wall. Drop a Bomb there to open an exit to the south. Don't go in it just yet. Instead, head further to the right. Use a Small Key on the locked block here to enter a room with several Sparks. Kill the Stalfos and go through the door to the right. Run straight through, dodging the pinching blades that collapse on you. Kill the Snakeropes here, then go through the south exit.

In the next room, several platforms move to and fro above a large chasm. Ride them to the east side of the room. Step off and follow this strip of land up to a chest. It contains the Boss Key. Grab it and hop down to the left. Return to the place where you bombed the wall and step through to the south.

In this room, you'll have to dodge the fire coming from the central torch as you Bomb the snot out of the Pols Voices here. Once all the bunnies have perished, a door to the right will spring open. Head through it. You'll find yourself in a large turnstile room. Go through the dial to be deposited on the south path. Follow it down to a room with a blue owl. Drop a Mystery Seed on it and he'll clue you in on how to beat the boss. Ride the central platforms across the chasm (it's kind of like Frogger), then hop off and kill the Snakeropes. Search the vases for health if you need it, otherwise head to the right and go through the Boss door.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Boss: Dodongo

This dinosaur can be tricky, but the advice from the owl should help. He's got two attacks, either he'll open his mouth and shoot fireballs at you, or he'll duck and charge. Whenever he opens his craw, chuck a Bomb inside. He'll balloon up and look all gassy. When he does, lift him with the Bracelet and toss him on the bed of spikes.

If you run out of Bombs, hack at the plants at the four corners of the room to get more. Just keep repeating the process. Four spike-trips will send Dodongo to his grave. Be sure to grab your Heart Container, then head through the south passage and collect the Gift of Time Essence. Now it's off to Spool Swamp.
