How do you kill the Basilisk? Help! (please read details)

I really really need help, at the end when Ginny is in the chamber im guessing you can't rescue her until you've killed the Basilisk. But i just can't injure it let alone kill it. i've pick up the sword and attacked him with it, and it does something to him, but doesn't knock off any of his health, any suggestions? pleeeeeeease i've nearly finished the game but im stuck with this:) Heeeeeellppppp!

hey! you have to use the sword to stop him looking at you, it will reflect his gaze and hurt him instead!

You have to be near the Basilisk and it directs you to hold down the X to deflect the beam from yourself towards it. You have to move the beam towards the body/mouth. When the beam stops pull back immediately out of the way because the Basilisk will dart towards you and take some of your life. It will take quite a while.
