Not sure what you mean by "grow any". If you mean leveling up. Well the more you use it the more it levels up. Just keep using it in battle.

dont use ultimate weapons and use the ones with growth level higher(scmitar, rune blade,etc...)

Ultimate weapons, some weapons, and some armor do not let ur materia "grow". There r weapons and armor that doubles the growth, like rune armlet.
