It really doesn't matter which characters you use in these battles, you just need people who can deal with the enemies quickly so you don't run out of time. These battles should not be that overly difficult so if you're having trouble you definitely need to level up your characters. You should not have to rely on enemy skills to beat them.

dragoon is spot on - if you can't beat these guys then you really need some training. the only monster that has a real chance against a fully levelled up party is the third one that looks like an iron giant - his punch can take you by surprise. leviathan makes short work of him - use that!

i would just like to say that pokefriend cant possibly know what hes talking about because tifa isnt in your party when your fightng on the train

here's a though if you can't beat them and if you have khights of the round use it

Some of the monsters on the train are also mechanical- which means they are very sensative to lightning. A bolt 2 should take care of them.

i like to use cid,tifa and vincent but choose the ones you want, and some limit brakes take
most of the enemies, but dont use summons because they take a long time to attack.and if you
are strong, some thunders 3 and deathblows+mp/hp absorbs plus some counters can take care of
the case
