The answer is within the races. You know how if your horse is running fast enough you can jump over certain things? Same principle. Run towards the gate and you horse should automatically leap over.

once ingo locks you in, jump out, by jumping over the fences that suround lon lon ranch( you have to use some carrots to jump.)
