it took us ages to figure this out, create a new sim and save him on a seperate block, then load up your game and just press start on the second control pad and pick the other saved sim then he will get dropped off at your house and the screen will split diagonally and just play from there.

You have to go to bust out mode then when you create everyone start playing and have second player press start.
