There is no way after you live in the beginning of the game that is it in tell you beat ansem

i would like it very much if some one could please explain how in the world to get back to destiny islands before ansem takes them over. The only time i know of that you are able to get back to the islands is when you go through the door in the final rest and then as soon as you get there riku/ansem appears and manipulates the world. Well anyway i tried following the cheat and went there and tried to go in the secret cave but i couldnt and now im stuck and dont know how to get riku.
