No you cant' buy a cow or sheep for free but u will get a horse 4 free from Barley the old man whose granddaughter is may the little gal.

Yes u can but u need 2 memory cards like u can have a friend who play harvest moon and u can trade the cows and sheep to rise the hearts.U also can tell ur friend that u are going to help him rise the cows and sheeps and he might give u one free 1.
