I dont understand 2 things, 1. who all these people are like cloud etc. and 2. wut r chapters in this game like i guess im in the first when would i get to the next?

You will know when you are in the next chapter of the game when a screen comes up and says the name of the next chapter. And the first chapter ends when you get to Ft. Zakdon or something like that.
