Well, first of all, do you own Counter-Strike?

If so, you will need to go to http://www.SteamPowered.com and click "Get Steam Now" in the top right corner. Then proceed to download it.

What happened is not long ago, Valve introduced a new gaming server engine named Steam, and all Half-life based games now must be run through it for internet connection.

After you download it, you will need to upgrade your CS and Steam with the latest patches, which should happen automatically.

Note : You WILL need your original product registration code. Without it, Steam does not know you actually *own* the game.

The good part is, once you enter it, your account (which you would have registered upon download of the Steam client) is always associated with that product. From then on, any computer on which you download the 750-some KB Steam client can automatically download your HL games, update, and play them.

This should get you set; if not, post again and I'll see what I can do. Also, in addition to the product code information, I would give you a warning not to attempt to hack, even above and beyond the usual reasons... Valve tracks registration numbers and accounts, and if their security programs detect hacks on your system, in use or not, your account and registered products will be banned from online gaming. No appeals.
