Ok, listen, I've had the game for four stinkin' years, and I still haven't beaten level 1 on the Ice Hills Zone! Someone help me, please! IT'S DRIVING ME MAD!!!!!

you mean ice mountain? you have to go underwater at the point where there is a lamp-post there. then head right using the springs to go up and then surface on the second spring. then continue, you will need to go underwater again near the end P.S. right by the spring which bounces you up at the very end of the level there is a life!
