No matter how many new games I start or whatever, it never finds the hexvalue so I can edit it. I am running X2 - The Threat version 1.4.
It may be related to your version. I am running X2-The threat v1.2 and it will work for me, but only during the storyline. Your hex editor may not be able to distinguish between your cash value and random code in the savegame file (i've found it will only work well if your cash is already in the millions. --The longer the converted hex string, the easier it is to locate)
Also, the game will crash if you enter a hex string that is not the same length as the original string, or a cash value greater then 999,999,999Cr (3B9AC9FF)
If that doesn't work there is a download from somewhere (possibly www.MegaGames.com) - about 13MB zip file, that is a save game at the beginning of the stroyline with an Argon Discoverer and 999,999,999Cr
