i've found that I am unable to find the hex code in savegames from the recent patches but find them easily in version 1.0 saves so you might see if that is your problem

i have the same problem. In the hex-editor (CR-Hexact v2) i search for the hex value 00001194 (4500 CR in the game) but it can't find it too. I use x² version 1.0 so i don't know what to do !
If anybody (who can edit the credit) can send me a savegame at just the begining of the game with the max of credit ? (send at NorgaleZ@free.fr) Thanks

I replaced all instances (hexedit counted 7) then gzip it and renamed it back to the original file but it ends up corrupted.

my other savegame after unzipping it the hex can't still find the hex value.

Save games of higher versions of the game are nothing more then zip archives. If you want to hex-edit your saves, you have to unzip them, edit, and update the archive. If you are not using some "inteligent" tool such is Total Commander (which will detect a zip file even if it doesn't have a *.zip extension), you have to rename x##.sav file to x##.zip, then open it with WinZip or something, edit, then re-create the x##.zip file and rename it back to x##.sav :-).

Don't bother trying to change the credit amount in hex or bin.

Easy way to 'cheat' in X2 is to enable the script editor (type 'Thereshallbewings' while flying in space, note the capital T) then add credits to player. Max is just under 2 billion. You can also script in any ship or station you want in any location desired.

Second way is to use a memory editor like GameWiz. What I did when the game first came out to make a savegame for people to test stuff. Quick check shows that www.the-commander.com still has that savegame listed under Downloads->Maps and Utilities. Has 999 mil credits, just buy a new ship or upgrade the current ship.

Hmm.. usernames already taken. What to use.

It will not work. I use Visual Basic C++.net. I found the credit value near the start of the code. when the credit value is changed and you try to load the game, the load game screen displays the new value but the old value remains once loaded.

Get yourself a solar power station and 4 ships minimum (1XL & 3 M) and set them up to trade. Double ship quantities if you are at the stage in the game where the Unknown ships turn up. Leave the game on for a whole week, replaciong lost ships when you return from work each day. This is the only honest way to get money without trading yourself during game play.

you need to find the hex code of the save game you are currently using(make a backup just in case!)to do this type in the amount of credit in the save game file (program files, enlight, x2 etc) and press hex on your calculator, the hex code you need to find must have 8 digits/letters so if your calculator only gives you 5 digits/letters etc you need to make up the difference in 0's once you have found this work out how many credits you want I had 888 million and press hex then just replace the code either manually or with the editor don't forget to save and then this will work or at least it worked for me

Ok right, this hex as i have experienced seems that it only works on the default version of the game you bought. SO, unless you patch it you can do this. BUT i have recently discovered even patched saved games can now be done! So, if you have patched your X2: The Threat game, and can't get the hex to work, do this.
Find your saved game (for info on where and what it is called etc, look at the instructions below) and rename it to 'X##.zip' (where ## is, is the number that is there, for example, X02.zip).
And try to open it, it will give you blah blah the Compressed Zip File is Invalid or Corrupted etc but ignore that, and click ok. Then rename the saved game BACK to 'X##.sav' (where ## is, is the number that is there, for example, X02.sav). THEN, just follow the instructions below as normal. EASY AS PIE! (And pie is good)

1. First off, get a good free hex editor, here is a good cheap one!

2. Go onto X2: The Threat and save your game, note these two things down when you do. What slot your saved game is in, and EXACTLY how many credits you have. If you get this wrong by even 1, it won't work.

3. Open up you windows calculator, or use one from the net, or something, windows calculator is best. And type in the number of credits you have on your saved game. Then goto: View... Hex. This is an example... you can test this by yourself to test if your calculator is working right. 7473 Credits == 1D31 (In Hex)

4. After you have done this, open your Hex Editor. Then, goto your X2: The Threat game Directory and look at the .sav files in the main directory of the game. Now, the name of the save file will be one less than the slot you saved your game in. (EXAMPLE: I save my game in Slot #7. The name of the save game file is X06.sav) (EXAMPLE2: I save my game is Slot #18. The name of the save game file is X17.sav)

5. Then, when you have found which is your saved game you wanted the credits on. Open it with your hex editor... 10 bgillions of numbers and letters will appear in the Hex Editor. But don't worry! It is easy! Lets say on the saved game i have opened in the Hex Editor i have 7473 credits. So, the HEX number for 7473 is 1D31. Ok. So, click on the 'Search' button in your Hex Editor (Every good Hex Editor has one, if yours didn't, download the one i suggested above, at the top of this post.), and type the hex code of the amount of credits you have on your saved game. Now, for this example we are using 7473 credits (1D31 Hex). So, instead of searching for just '1D31', i HAVE to search for '00001D31'. Because the Hex code your search for HAS to be 8 digits long, or you could be editing game vitalities - (Is that a word? Not sure about that but you know what it means anywho!) - . So... say on my saved game i had 10,000,000 (10 Million) Credits (The Hex Code for this is '989680'), I would search for '00989680'. Always make your hex code add up to 8 by adding however many 0s (Zeros) at the front.

6. The Hex editor should find more than one of these Hex Codes. CHANGE EVERY SINGLE INSTANCE OF THE CODE TO THE HEX CODE OF THE NUMBER OF CREDITS YOU WANT! The maximum you can have is 999,999,999 (Hex Code 3B9AC9FF). Any more than that and it is possible your saved game will be corrupted!

7. When you have changed every instance of it. Save the game file to your X2: The Threat Directory. Common Directorys: UK: "C:\Program Files\EGOSOFT\X2 - The Threat" USA: "C:\Program Files\Enlight\X2 - The Threat"

8. Then, simply go onto the saved game you edited and WALAA, however many credits you hexed =P.

Hope this helps out quite a few people.
