I just got the Sonic the hedgehog 3 and I have no idea on how to get past the begining of the game. The very first part. I walked around and got 2 silver coins and tried to buy that thing from the store but it wouldnt let me do it. Please help me to get past this.

LOOK FOR SOMEONE WITH A BLUE SQUARE OVER THERE HEAD (AN OLD MAN) AND DO HIS CHALLENGE THEN GO BUY THE LIGHT DASH THING
