How do you scan the broken gate on the thirde mission

fire missiles at the mines from at least 3-4km then space walk (shift-E) right up to the nassels on both sides of the gate

Also - if you don't want to use missles (I found they were Very innaccurate) then use a Fighter Drone or 2 to clear the mines.
To See the mines, you need to get to about 5Km away from the gate then press Page Up or Page Down until Squash Mines start appearing

you destroy all of the SQUASH mines, the get close to one of the necelles, exit your ship and enter the necelle. the right nacelle is one of the two, so you might not get on your first try.

To scan the gate exit you ship ( make sure you have distoryed the mines first ) go to each of the necelles and when your close enough a scan will automatically start . when you have the correct necelle a download will commence .
